About the Project
Wear We Came From is a photo-audio series documenting 10 young Asian individuals living in the GTA and their stories of migration through clothing and accessories. Whether it’s a coat that survived the Japanese internment camps in the 1940s, or a ring that journeyed from Kolkata, India only to be discovered in Mississauga, apparel often lives through multiple generations and moves across lands, holding an abundance of memories, experiences, and histories. Wear We Came From is about uncovering and creating a dynamic preservation of Asian im/migrant stories. View the Facebook Event here.

Created by Stephanie Xu (photographer) and Izzy Docto (multimedia journalist), with support by Mirae Lee (Project 40's Community Director; website designer), this project is part of Project 40 Collective's Col.lab Incubator program.
About the Creators
Stephanie Xu is a documentary photographer who focuses on people, moments, and stories,
and is interested in how visual representation provides structure and agency within global development. See more of her work at rawandrove.com.
Izzy Docto is a multimedia journalist who travelled from her hometown of Vancouver to Toronto, ready to meet new people and share their stories. She works at CTV News while also co-hosting “Not Seen on TV” podcast, sharing her passion for Asian representation in Canadian media over the airwaves.
About Project 40 Collective
Project 40 Collective is a Toronto-based pan-Asian artist community which offers exhibiting, publishing, and collaborative opportunities for individuals whose voices, ideas, and stories are often hidden or ignored. The Collective aims to create spaces for people to critically engage with shared and individual identities and experiences, as well as work in solidarity to build an inclusive community.
